Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows that I love movies. I don't like going to the movies, but I love watching a good movie. While I can go for long dry spells without watching tv or films, every once in a while, without fail I get excited about movies again.
Usually it begins with a visit to IMDB where I check out the "Coming Soon" section. If a particular favorite actor is in a movie, or it has a theme that interests me I read more about it. Then I go to find trailers. Without a doubt, Apple's Quicktime trailers are the best.
Today I was looking ahead to see what's in store for this holiday season. When I look for movies, I usually look for one that has two actors that I favor in it. If it has just one, I have a good chance of liking it, but if it has two, then I am almost certain to really love it.
The first one that caught my eye, Little Children, stars Kate Winslet and Jennifer Connelly. The premise seems dull, but I'm certain the actors will make it good. Here's a trailer.
The Prestige gives me a chill after seeing the trailer. I'm still not totally sure what the trick is, but it'll be awesome. Starring Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine, and David Bowie as Nikola Tesla! I love David Bowie, I love Nikola Tesla- this movie could be perfect.
I really cannot stand Mel Gibson. I want to see Apocalypto despite the fact that he directed it and it stars nobody I've ever heard of. There are exceptions to the rules, and even though I hate MG, I respect the fact that he can direct. This film will be huge just like The Passion and Braveheart. The difference here is that I'm really interested in history of the Mayan empire. Just watch the trailer.
What can be said about The Holiday? It looks like a romantic comedy. Despite that, it has Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black. Too many pro's for me not to add it to the list.
I'm gonna go on a hunch that Breaking and Entering will also be excellent although it has only one of my favorite actors, again Jude Law. We will see.
I don't want to go too much deeper into the future, because just when I begin to look forward to an upcoming movie, something happens and it gets canned. I'm certain this one is coming about for sure, so last on my list is Charlotte's Web. Watching the trailer, I instantly recalled reading the book as a child and crying at the end. This is going to be so much better than that cartoon from 1973. Julia Roberts has the perfect voice of Charlotte, and Dakota Fanning is always great, even in crap movies like War of the Worlds. Every other voice is some amazing actor. Robert Redford, John Cleese, Kathy Bates...I love a good family film and this is one I look forward owning.
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
